Village Vision Care (VVC) is leading a large-scale reforestation and community empowerment project to plant 40,000 native trees on Ugandan-owned farms across Masaka, Kalangala, Kyotera, Sembabule, Kalungu, Lwengo, Rakai, Lyantonde, Bukomansimbi, and surrounding districts.
Uganda’s forest cover has fallen from 24% in the 1990s to around 13% today, contributing to climate instability, disrupted rainfall, soil erosion, and declining rural livelihoods. This project restores degraded land, protects water sources, and empowers farmers to integrate native trees into productive farm systems.
Challenge:
Rapid deforestation and land degradation threaten food security, water sources, and livelihoods
Women and youth in rural areas lack sustainable income opportunities tied to environmental conservation
Changing rainfall patterns disrupt farming seasons and local micro-climates
Our Solution:
VVC will train and employ local men and women to grow, plant, and maintain native trees on farms and community watershed zones. Key activities include:
Creating local green jobs in nurseries, planting, and maintenance
Producing and planting native species such as Musizi, Mvule, Mahogany, and Grevillea
Maintaining each tree for at least four years to ensure survival and long-term impact
Restoring biological corridors around rivers, springs, and farmlands
Improving soil quality, reducing erosion, and capturing an estimated 40,000 tons of CO₂ over time
Enhancing local rainfall reliability and micro-climates
Long-Term Impact:
40,000 native trees planted and maintained for at least four years
150+ smallholder farmers directly engaged
100+ youth and women earning fair wages through nurseries, planting, and maintenance work
60+ hectares of degraded land restored
Improved biodiversity, water sources, and local climate stability
Contributes to Uganda’s National Forest and Landscape Restoration Plan and SDGs 1, 5, 13, 15
Donation Tiers / Impact:
$15 → Purchase 1 sack of compost/fertile soil for a women’s group nursery
$25 → Plant and maintain 1 native tree for 4 years
$100 → Plant and maintain 4 trees for 4 years
$300 → Plant and maintain 12 trees for 4 years
$500 → Plant and maintain 20 trees for 4 years
$1,000 → Plant and maintain 50 trees for 4 years
$2,000 → Plant and maintain 100 trees for 4 years
$5,000 → Plant and maintain 250 trees for 4 years
Call to Action:
Every contribution helps restore Uganda’s forests, strengthen communities, and secure a sustainable future. Together, we can regrow hope — one tree, one family, one village at a time.
