i-Saksham develops local young women in Bihar as 'Leaders of Change' (edu-leaders) towards the vision of 'Voice and Choice for Every Woman' in their communities.
The women leaders go through a 2-year immersive leadership development program followed by continuous alumni engagement where they:
a. Gain self-belief that their identity matters and become confident to aspire.
b. Demonstrate leadership by enhancing children/adolescent girl's life skills and engaging parents to create a supportive ecosystem.
c. Organize as a peer-driven cluster to deliberate and act on personal and community challenges.
d. Pursue their aspirations through stakeholder linkages (academia, govt., CSOs) and thus become role models.
e. Gain acceptability from families and communities thereby reshaping the perception of women's roles.
i-Saksham currently has a network of 800+ leaders in 5 districts of Bihar - Begusarai, Gaya, Jamui, Munger, Muzaffarpur. A recent third-party impact assessment shows that these young women leaders have had a massive multiplier effect on gender, equity, and education in their communities.
The goal of i-Saksham is to build a network of 10,000 women leaders, partnering with the state govt. and CSOs, who mentor and inspire 1 million girls and women by 2030 towards an active social and economic life.
Since its inception, the model has received several national acclamations- Best practices under 'Skill Innovation Initiative', 'Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana'; and Incubation from IIM B.
i-Saksham has partnered with Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (Jeevika) to work with cluster-level federations of women SHGs who will recruit females as edu-leaders, and oversee delivery of quality education at schools/community learning centres. The partnership will shortly be scaled across different districts of Bihar State of India.
Your support will be used to set up a corpus which will be used to create young edu-leaders in extremism-affected areas of Bihar State in India, who in turn will work to promote voice and choice for women in their communities.
