Families in Israel and the occupied territories need your help!

by INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS

The ICRC has been present in Israel and the Occupied Territories since 1967. As a neutral, independent, humanitarian organization, we visit detainees in Israeli and Palestinian places of detention. We also help improve access to essential services like water and electricity in Gaza and support livelihood projects throughout the Occupied Territories.

In the past months since the onset of renewed hostilities, ICRC assistance has reached hundreds of thousands of people. Below are the 2023 highlights – by no means exhaustive – of key figures linked to the ICRC’s operations in this conflict:
► FACILITATING HOSTAGE RELEASE
109 hostages in Gaza and 154 Palestinians detained in Israel were safely released and transferred during a ceasefire in November, thanks in part to our work as a neutral intermediary
► PROVIDING LIFE-SAVING CARE
66,331 operations were performed and 14 hospitals were provided with medical materials, equipment and staff training
► HELPING VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE REGAIN AUTONOMY
1,927 people regained mobility and improved their quality of life through 6 ICRC-supported physical rehabilitation projects
► HELPING PEOPLE MEET THEIR BASIC NEEDS
142,196 people in Gaza and the West Bank received household essentials or cash grants to ease their immediate situation. Over 2.43 million people gained access to clean water
and proper sanitary facilities
► RECONNECTING SEPARATED FAMILIES
1,575 communications were facilitated between family members with details or news about their loved ones

The ICRC together with other Red Cross Societies active in the area, opened a RC 60-bed field hospital in Gaza. It provides emergency surgical care; obstetric/gynecological, maternal, and newborn care; pediatric care; and outpatient department. Since its inception at the end of May 2024, our medical teams have provided over 18,000 urgent care/medical consultations, helped to deliver 95 babies, conducted 796 surgeries at the Red Cross hospital in Gaza.
