SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT SPOTLIGHT

When Hailey D. was 9th grader, she was not only a full-time student—she was also a competitive gymnast, a member of the Lafayette PD Explorers program, and a dual enrollee at Arizona State University. When she was older, she served as group leader in the Acadian Ambulance Explorer Program, podiumed 17 times in regional/national USA gymnastics events, ranked 13th in the 2021 USA Olympic trials, earned a 2nd Degree Blackbelt in Taekwondo, maintained membership in Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, and volunteered in numerous projects serving veterans, homeless, hurricane survivors, and children.

As a child of military service members, Hailey is no stranger to change. She has lived in two countries, seven states, and she loves to travel. She learned sacrifice by watching her parents’ service to our nation and providing stability for her.

"Both my parents were in service, in the Air Force, so I always felt a calling to do public service."

Her hope is to complete her undergraduate degree without incurring any student debt and more importantly, not creating a financial burden to her parents.

Thanks in part to receiving a Carroll H. Payne Scholarship, Hailey is currently a student at Texas Christian University, majoring in Political Science with an emphasis on International Relations, and is considering minoring in History and potentially a foreign language. She is also pursuing Emergency Medical Technician certification while attending college.
