Climate Disaster Response

by WORLD CENTRAL KITCHEN INCORPORATED

WCK has served more than 200 million fresh meals to people impacted by climate disasters and other crises around the world. In November 2021, WCK announced a commitment to raise and spend $1 billion over the next 10 years investing in communities affected by extreme weather events caused by the climate crisis.

About our Climate Disaster Fund
Climate crisis-fueled extreme weather leads to most of the disasters to which WCK responds, increasing the frequency and intensity of natural disasters that affect communities around the world. Through our Climate Disaster Fund, WCK 1) mobilizes with the “urgency of now” to climate disasters, 2) holds trainings to prepare local chefs and volunteers to respond to a disaster in their own communities, and 3) advocates for improving access to nutritious food before, during, and after disaster strikes, in addition to during and the immediate aftermath.

So far in this year, WCK has responded to:
- Flooding in Brazil, Guatemala, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Alaska
- Hurricane Fiona impacting Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and other Caribbean islands
- Hurricane Ian devastating Florida’s southwest Gulf Coast
- Wildfires in Spain, New Mexico, Colorado, and California
- A winter freeze in Texas for the second consecutive year
- Cyclones in Madagascar
- Tornadoes in New Orleans, LA and Gaylord, MI

To meet the challenge of this moment, we need all hands on deck. Individuals, corporations, foundations — anyone can join this commitment alongside WCK.
