Bring Joy and Dignity to 267 Vulnerable Families in Rural Uganda

by VILLAGE VISION CARE

Summary

Village Vision Care (VVC) is bringing hope, dignity, and essential support to 267 vulnerable families in rural Uganda, including adolescent girls and youth in two youth correctional centres. Many of these households face extreme food insecurity, hidden hunger, and period poverty.

Through this project, families will receive nutritious food packs, cooking oil, and reusable menstrual hygiene kits, while children in communities and correctional centres will enjoy supervised festive meals and activities.

This initiative goes beyond short-term relief, it strengthens community resilience, improves health and nutrition, and restores dignity to families and children during a period of high vulnerability.

The Challenge

Rural and peri-urban households in Uganda face multiple seasonal hardships:

Food insecurity: Soaring food prices leave children at risk of hidden hunger and malnutrition.

Period poverty: Adolescent girls often lack access to affordable menstrual products, impacting health, school attendance, and self-confidence.

Isolation of youth: Children in correctional centres frequently miss nutritious meals, social interaction, and safe activities during holidays.

Limited resources: Families cannot afford basic celebratory food, gifts, or hygiene supplies, and this lack affects mental well-being and dignity.

The seasonal challenges are compounded by systemic poverty, limited social support networks, and environmental hardships that disrupt household livelihoods.

Our Solution

Village Vision Care will implement a multi-faceted, high-impact strategy to address immediate and medium-term needs:

Nutrition Support: Distribute food packs and cooking oil to 267 families, ensuring every household can meet essential dietary needs during the festive season.

Menstrual Health & Dignity: Provide reusable menstrual hygiene kits to adolescent girls, accompanied by brief coaching on proper use and menstrual health. This supports dignity, confidence, and school participation.

Festive Meals & Supervised Activities: Host safe and engaging celebrations for children in youth correctional centres, coordinated with staff to meet all safeguarding standards.

Transparent Impact Reporting: Deliver verified updates through photos, beneficiary notes, and progress reports so donors see the tangible difference their support makes.

This approach ensures short-term relief, educational impact, and community empowerment, turning a single holiday season into a platform for ongoing positive change.
