Hurricane Melissa: Children in the Caribbean Need Your Help

, Australian Committee For UNICEF Limited

Hurricane Melissa is approaching Jamaica and Haiti with winds up to 100 mph (155 km/h) and life-threatening rainfall, flooding, and landslides. UNICEF estimates that at least 1.6 million children across the Caribbean are at risk, including 700,000 children in Jamaica alone.

Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, Haiti, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, are expected to endure several days of intense weather that could disrupt basic services, especially in vulnerable coastal areas. UNICEF teams are already on the ground taking urgent action in Barbados and Panama to Jamaica and Cuba:

• Prepositioning safe water, hygiene kits, tents, and medical supplies across Jamaica, Haiti, and Cuba.
• Providing emergency cash support to thousands of vulnerable families.
• Leading coordination for health, nutrition, child protection, and education to safeguard children before and after the storm.

UNICEF’s work is 100% funded by donors. To deliver this life-saving aid, we rely on the support of employees, teams, and corporates around the world.

Your workplace gift can save lives:
• $30 could help provide 25,000 litres of water clean drinking water.
• $49 can help provide a first aid kit, which could help treat a range of injuries.
• $100 can help treat a severely malnourished child
• $136 could help provide two hygiene and dignity kits, assisting two families in emergencies.

Your donation today will help provide essential supplies and protect children and families when they need it most.

Together, we can help children survive Hurricane Melissa and rebuild their lives.
