Founded in 2005 as a coalition of community partners, United Against Human Trafficking (UAHT) empowers communities to prevent and end human trafficking through education, identification, and intervention. We believe in the inherent dignity of every individual and work to create a future where no person is bought, sold, or exploited.
Human trafficking thrives in environments of poverty, instability, and lack of opportunity. UAHT addresses these root causes through direct services for survivors, prevention and education for youth and professionals, and demand reduction strategies targeting those who exploit. Each year, we serve thousands of individuals across Harris and Fort Bend Counties through trauma-informed programs that equip survivors and at-risk individuals with tools for safety, healing, and long-term independence.
Programs
1. Survivor Support Services
UAHT provides holistic, trauma-informed case management for adult survivors of sex and labor trafficking. Survivors receive support in meeting immediate needs—safe housing, rental and utility assistance, food, transportation, clothing, and healthcare, while also pursuing long-term stability goals. Our case managers partner with clients to access workforce training, education, counseling, and permanent housing.
2. Real Talk
This intensive intervention program empowers individuals at heightened risk of exploitation, including those experiencing poverty, homelessness, or past system involvement. Participants learn to recognize the signs of trafficking, establish healthy boundaries, and practice self-advocacy. Real Talk combines life skills with peer support, encouraging resilience and reducing vulnerability.
3. Youth Prevention and Awareness
UAHT reaches young people in schools and community settings with prevention education that addresses trafficking, domestic violence, online safety, healthy relationships, and boundary-setting. Youth are equipped to spot red flags, seek help, and support their peers.
4. Stopping Sexual Exploitation (SSE)
SSE is a demand-reduction program that holds men accountable for purchasing sex and challenges harmful attitudes that fuel trafficking. Participants confront the real-world consequences of exploitation, reflect on their choices, and commit to change. In 2024, 66 individuals completed the SSE program.
5. Community Education and Training
UAHT trains professionals, including educators, healthcare providers, social service staff, and law enforcement, to identify and respond appropriately to trafficking indicators. Community workshops raise awareness among civic groups, faith communities, and businesses.
6. A 2nd Cup Social Enterprise
UAHT operates A 2nd Cup, Houston’s only anti-trafficking coffee shop. Beyond being a hub for awareness and community engagement, A 2nd Cup provides employment opportunities for survivors in a trauma-informed setting. The café hosts community events, “Coffee & Conversations” sessions, and coalition gatherings that strengthen the local anti-trafficking network.
7. Coalition and Systems Change
As a founding partner of the federally funded Enhanced Collaborative Model Task Force, UAHT strengthens partnerships with over 50 local organizations. Together, we coordinate referrals, reduce service gaps, and ensure survivors and at-risk individuals have access to comprehensive care.
