The Challenge:
The severe second wave of COVID-19 in India in 2021 left countless communities in dire need. People faced the health crisis, economic instability, hunger, and a lack of vital information. The challenge was to address these multi-faceted needs and bring solace to those affected. In the present day, the Heroes for Humanity program has transitioned from a Covid response program to a flagship program to mobilize our existing 500 Heroes who work on the ground in rural communities to provide vital services.
The Solution:
In response to this significant challenge, The Desai Foundation and S.P. Hinduja Banque Privée joined forces to launch the Heroes for Humanity program. This initiative empowered 500 community facilitators, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to serve rural areas across multiple states. These heroes became the frontline warriors, delivering COVID-19 care and Vaccination information, distributing essential supplies, providing health and hygiene guidance, and facilitating vocational programs. Reaching 2.1 Million individuals with vital services in its first year of operation the Heros for Humanity program has made remarkable strides in offering non-formal education, raising awareness, and supporting underserved communities, contributing to their overall well-being and empowerment.
The Lasting Impact:
The Heroes for Humanity program has made a profound and lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals. It has directly impacted over 4.4 million people, reached over 1.8 million through HelpDesk services, and trained more than 1,100 heroes. In addition, over 91,000 individuals have benefited from the Primary Health and Hygiene Program, while close to 590,000 have gained financial awareness through Banking and Saving Education & Awareness. Furthermore, 460,957 individuals have been positively impacted through Menstrual Health and Hygiene Awareness efforts.
Moving forward, the Heroes for Humanity program remains committed to its mission: striving to make a significant impact by providing continuous support, education, and awareness to communities in need. Over 1,000 Heroes have touched the lives of over 4 million people through critical services, covering 8 states, 16 districts, and 1,346 villages, ensuring assistance reaches those most in need.
