Women Livelihood Support - Tailoring and Aari Embroidery skill Training for women in India

por Women's Education and Economic Development Society

Success Update :

We are thrilled to share the success of our training programs during this fiscal year 2024-25, made possible by the generous donations. Through the funds raised we were able to offer 2 batches of Tailoring and Aari work skill training to women in our community. Over the months, 35 women have successfully completed the Aari work skill training, and 25 women have finished the Tailoring training. The contributions have had a profound impact, empowering these underprivileged women with valuable skills that can enhance their livelihoods.

Project Need details :

Tailoring skill Training center:

At WEEDS, we are committed to fostering women entrepreneurs and empowering women with valuable skills. We have already established a thriving tailoring unit in our field office in Mangadu, where numerous women have received training, embarked on their entrepreneurial journeys, and several others have secured positions in garment companies.

Our mission now extends to many women who are employed as domestic helpers, often subjected to unnoticed domestic violence and verbal harassment. To combat discrimination and the servitude of women, WEEDS has initiated a tailoring training program in Kundrathur Block,Mangadu. This program enables women to learn a valuable skill, become self-sufficient, and lead a life of dignity. Financial independence brings the opportunity to support their families and live confidently.

We provide tailoring training to women, preparing them for employment in garment companies. However, some trainees aspire to become entrepreneurs. Following their training, if they have access to an industrial sewing machine, they can earn a living by stitching from home or set up a small tailoring shop, embarking on the path of entrepreneurship.

Our Tailoring Training center in Mangadu are staffed with dedicated instructors. Currently, we require funding to cover their monthly salaries and provide additional support for administrative expenses, including rent, electricity, and maintenance of sewing machines. We rely on the generous support of donors to sustain this crucial women's livelihood project.

Aari Embroidery skill Training:

We have launched the Aari Embroidery skill training program at our field office at Mangadu area, specifically targeting women in our community. The impact of this training is evident, as we see significant improvements in the lives of the underprivileged women who participate. Throughout the training, these women not only learn valuable skills but also have the opportunity to work, earn, and gain practical experience. This empowers them to start their entrepreneurial journeys with confidence and without fear.

Program Model:

Tailoring Skill Training:
Upon completing the four-month training program, trainees are employed within the tailoring units, where they have the opportunity to receive orders from garment companies. This approach streamlines the employment process for trainees, eliminating the need to search for new jobs. Those interested can explore job opportunities in companies or establish their own shops, while others can earn by fulfilling orders received from garment companies. We have already implemented this initiative, benefiting 20 of our previous trainees. They work independently, using provided sewing machines, space, and electricity, with our instructor facilitating the procurement of orders. Simultaneously, we continue to train new learners.

Aari Embroidery Skill Training:
Trainees who complete the program will also have the chance to work and earn through our unit. While these graduates are employed, we continue to train new batches of women, expanding the impact of our skill training program.

- Women from low-income families
