Destitution Appeal - Help Refugees

di Positive Action In Housing Ltd.

The refugee crisis has not gone away.

Today, there are over 25 million refugees globally, many of whom are living in unimaginable hardship, unable to access basic human rights. Positive Action in Housing’s Lifeline Programme has become a crucial resource for refugee families and individuals facing desperate circumstances. Demand for our services has never been higher.

Through the Lifeline Programme, we provide life-saving support, including shelter, crisis grants through our Emergency Relief Fund to provide food, bus travel, and essentials for destitute refugees and asylum seekers who are left with no access to housing, jobs, or state support. Despite being entitled to assistance, many people are unjustly left destitute, caught in a system that treats them as invisible.

Our emergency caseworkers work tirelessly across the country, supporting families, lone individuals, and survivors of trauma as they navigate crisis situations. Alongside humanitarian aid, we offer practical, long-term support to help people rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.

This year, we will distribute approximately £100,000 in crisis grants to individuals fleeing war, persecution, and violence in countries such as Syria, Eritrea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Palestine, and Yemen. These grants provide a vital lifeline, covering emergency needs such as food, shelter, and transport.

Since its inception, our pioneering Room for Refugees Network has provided free shelter to over 5,000 refugees and displaced individuals in the homes of volunteer hosts in London, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and across the UK. These volunteers offer more than just a roof over someone’s head—they provide safety, stability, and hope during a time of immense upheaval.

Hundreds of vulnerable children, women, and men have been able to rebuild their lives because of this approach. But the challenges we face are increasing. In the months ahead, we expect greater demand for support from elderly refugees, pregnant women, families with young children, and people who are sick or disabled—all of whom are at heightened risk of destitution.

With your help, we can do more. Your support makes a direct and immediate difference to people’s lives, giving them the chance to survive, recover, and rebuild.
