Help Robert Katende Get Back on His Feet

by Robert Katende Initiative

Hello friends, supporters, and kind-hearted strangers,

Robert Katende is reaching out with a humble heart and a pressing need. Many of you may know Robert from his work with disadvantaged children in the slums of Kampala, Uganda, where he uses chess as a tool to teach life skills, instill hope, and create opportunities for a better future. Some of you may also know him from the Disney movie "Queen of Katwe," which tells the inspiring story of Phiona Mutesi, a young girl from the slums who became an international chess champion under Robert's mentorship.

Unfortunately, Robert is now facing a personal challenge that he cannot overcome on his own. Two years ago, he suffered a severe knee injury that required surgery but he did not have the funds. This injury has not only caused him immense pain but has also hindered his ability to walk, yet he traveled around the world to raise funds.

The Situation

The photos say it all: only after 2 years he can now go to the hospital for surgery. Without this surgery, he will be unable to walk properly, let alone continue his work with the children. The cost of the surgery, post-operative care, and rehabilitation is beyond his financial means.

The Goal

The goal is to raise $5,000 to cover the following expenses:

Surgery and Medical Bills
Post-Operative Care and Rehabilitation
Support for the Chess Program During Recovery
Why This Matters

The chess program is more than just a game for these children. It is a lifeline that offers them hope, teaches critical thinking, and provides a safe haven from the harsh realities of life in the slums. During Robert's recovery, it is crucial to ensure that the program continues to run smoothly, which means hiring temporary support and securing additional resources.

How You Can Help

Your contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference. Here’s how you can help:

Gratitude

Robert is deeply grateful for any support you can offer. Your generosity will not only help him get back on his feet but will also ensure that the children in his chess program continue to receive the guidance and support they need to thrive.

Thank you from the bottom of Robert's heart for your kindness and support.

With gratitude
