Sponsor cataract eye surgery for an underprivileged patient

by Madurai Health and Leprosy Relief Centre

Besides the skin and nerves, leprosy also affects other organs such as the bones (leading to loss of fingers and toes) and testes (leading to infertility). Leprosy can also cause a chronic inflammation to the eye, cataract and other problems which can lead to loss of vision and ultimately blindness. This has a major impact on the quality of life of leprosy patients, in Madurai district there are 46 such cases of leprosy patients who have eye problems. The affect is too severe and surgery should be done on priority basis. This will help improve the quality of life of the patient. The estimated average cost for eye surgery is Rs. 6,500/- per patient.
