If/When/How works to a) keep people from becoming entangled in criminal prosecutions, b) support and defend them if they are, and c) change the law to ensure that no one is criminalized for their abortion or pregnancy outcomes in the first place. It’s our goal to ensure that people in every state have power to determine their reproductive lives in safety and with dignity, shielded from criminalization and state control over their experiences and decisions about their bodies and families.
How We Work: We work toward this future through these strategies: Legal Services, Strategic Advocacy, Public Education, and Power-Building.
If/When/How serves communities who live at the intersections of multiple forms of structural oppression and experience systemically-driven inequities. Our clients are prevented from or punished for self-determining their reproductive lives and must constantly navigate catch-22s, coercive policies, and threats of state violence. We work with BIPOC, youth, trans/gender expansive people, immigrants, LGBQIA+ people and those struggling with economic insecurity. By centering those most impacted by reproductive oppression, we ensure that our efforts, including the policies we advocate for, lift up everyone.
