Asociacion Colectivo Vida Digna

Quetzaltenango, Quetzaltenango

Vida Digna is an indigenous Maya organization in the Western Highlands of Guatemala working together with returned migrant families, women, youth, and other people affected by migration. We enlist an interdisciplinary approach: community-based economics, organic agriculture, natural medicine, education, art and healing practices- to strengthen the abilities of indigenous youth and their families. We work together with Indigenous Peoples from rural areas of Guatemala who continue to be excluded from access to basic rights and justice.

We are a collective that works with Mayan youth and families across Guatemala, especially youth who are returning to Guatemala after deportation. Since 2010, Vida Digna has united indigenous people from different regions to support the rights of marginalized communities in the Guatemalan countryside through a combination of collective action, advocacy, community organizing and direct service initiatives. Together, at our center Casa Kame, we seek to strengthen Mayan knowledge and livelihoods providing guidance, educational support and scholarships, organic agricultural advisory, and economic-skills training for young indigenous women and men.
