Yemen Urgent Relief

by INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND RELIEF FOUNDATION

Yemen is facing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis and is in desperate need of assistance. Since the outbreak of the war in 2015, the conflict has led to more than 3.56 million people displaced and has left 24 million people, about 80% of the population – in need of humanitarian aid and protection. The rapid spread of the COVID-19 pandemic declares another potential tragedy. Low immunity levels across the population make the importance of large-scale aid programs such as health, clean water and sanitation, and nutrition vital if millions of vulnerable people are to withstand the virus.

Our Response
Currently, IDRF is on the ground providing essential life-saving humanitarian services to hundreds of thousands of people living in makeshift internally displaced person camps throughout Yemen. Our key areas of operation includes the governorates of Abyan, Hudaida, Taiz, Hadramaut, and Lahij.

COVID-19 has already had a significant impact on the lives of many across Yemen. With limited tests, clean water, hygiene items, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), millions of people are at risk. In Response, IDRF is providing COVID-19 tests and PPEs to health care workers providing essential frontline services to those in need. Further, through IDRF’s in-country ambulance, people in need of urgent health care are being transferred to hospitals to receive immediate attention.

Clean water remains essential for millions of people in Yemen, IDRF has rehabilitated and constructed dozens of motor and solar water wells near displaced person camps. These water wells provide families with clean water, but they also provide irrigation to nearby farmland to support farmers and offer fresh food locally. IDRF is seeking to build and rehabilitate more water wells in the weeks to come.

Over 20 million people are food insecure in Yemen, with a staggering 10 million at risk of famine. IDRF is committed to ensuring that food parcels are distributed to families as hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition are the most pressing and overwhelming challenges facing the country.

Despite being in the center of the world’s most massive humanitarian crisis, the unmitigated spread of COVID-19 could devolve this crisis into a catastrophe.

Please help us provide clean water, food, and essential health care services to the millions in need across Yemen. Urgent aid is needed now more than ever.
