ICRC response to Escalation of Conflict in Lebanon

by INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS

The situation in Lebanon continues to deteriorate at an alarming pace. Civilian casualties are mounting, and countless individuals are being displaced, forced to abandon their homes with little to no time to gather belongings. Entire families are now facing extreme adversity, struggling to secure basic necessities such as food, shelter, clean water, and medical care, all while living under the constant threat of further violence.
In response to this escalating crisis, ICRC teams on the ground are working relentlessly to deliver life-saving assistance to those most affected. Their efforts are focused on providing immediate relief, ensuring that vulnerable populations receive the support they so desperately need in these trying times.

Below are key facts and figures regarding our efforts, in collaboration with our partners in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, to assist the affected population in Lebanon:

1. We dispatched medications and consumables to 3 Emergency Medical Services, 12 Primary Healthcare Centers and 8 hospitals to help treat and care for the wounded.
2. We provided contingency stocks sufficient of treating up to 2,000 patients over a 10-day period.
3. We enhanced the emergency preparedness and response capabilities of 800 healthcare staff from 60 health structures.
4. We are Providing lifeline support to 45,565 people (9,113 families) from 49 communities in collaboration with the Lebanese Red Cross.
5. We maintained and repaired 15 pumping stations in affected areas to guarantee clean water for 565,000 individuals.
6. Securing systemic water supply: We installed 10 large storage tanks to ensure a steady supply of water for affected communities in Southern Lebanon.
7. Preserving dignity of the departed: We donated forensic items such as 1,790 body bags hospitals to ensure the departed are treated with respect and dignity.
8. In collaboration with the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners: We helped 10 hospitals/health centers run by the Lebanon branch of the Palestine Red Crescent Society to continue their daily operations with 2228,212 liters of fuel and 8 fuel tanks.

In the next weeks to come a special emphasis will be placed on addressing critical medical emergencies, such as performing C-sections and managing neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) cases. Beyond direct medical care, our contingency plans include covering the medical bills of 25 non-Lebanese war-wounded patients at identified hospitals, ensuring that their treatment is not delayed during this critical window.
In addition to medical care, mobility devices and other necessary resources will be distributed to those in need as part of our broader contingency plan to provide immediate, life-saving assistance. By deploying these measures, we aim to stabilize the situation during the most vulnerable phase and provide the necessary support to the affected population.
