Help UNHCR's Emergency Response in Libya
by US Association for UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency)Devastating rains triggered catastrophic floods across Libya, killing thousands and displacing thousands more. The incredible toll of death and injury increases by the day as rescue efforts continue.
While this remains a rapidly developing situation, it’s already clear that the road to recovery will be long — and displaced families who lost everything urgently need your compassionate support. Teams from the UN Refugee Agency are already on the ground responding with emergency shelter and supplies.
UNHCR RESPONSE
UNHCR is working closely with national and international partners to respond to the situation as part of the wider UN response in support of the Government. UNHCR is reinforcing the team in Benghazi to provide support to people affected and assess needs.
Activities planned for UNHCR to support refugees, asylum-seekers, IDPs and newly displaced persons include distribution of core relief and non-food items, protection interventions, medical supplies and equipment and shelter support. Cash assistance will also be provided, if the local banking system allows it.
UNHCR and partners plan to reach up to 50,000 people over the next three months including refugees, asylum-seekers, IDPs and newly displaced persons. UNHCR is immediately appealing to donors and partners for $5 million to respond to the urgent needs on the ground.
These families desperately need your help. Do not delay. Send critical support now.
