Supporting Ukrainian math students

by Nova Ukraine

Ukraine is the country of very strong academic traditions, especially in mathematics. It is not a coincidence that this year the Fields medal was awarded to Maryna Viazovska who grew up in Ukraine. Since 2016 Nova Ukraine supports young Ukrainian students and scientists. For years we partially financed the Ukrainian national team at the European Girls Math Olympiad (EGMO).

One of the EGMO participants, Yulia Zdanovskaya (in the photo), was also a volunteer in our partner program “Teach for Ukraine”. As the war started, Yulia stayed in Ukraine to help evacuate elderly and people in need. In March 2022 she was killed by a Russian bomb in her apartment in her native city of Kharkiv.

Nova Ukraine focuses on humanitarian help to Ukraine during the war. Yet we continue to finance mathematical projects. Even in 2022 we sponsored math camps for kids, advanced math classes and, yes, the Ukrainian team at EGMO-2022. We believe in the persistence and talents of the Ukrainian people. Please, help these talents to survive and strive!
