Sudan Humanitarian Crisis

by CENTER FOR DISASTER PHILANTHROPY INC

The latest conflict in Sudan broke out on April 15, 2023, exacerbating the pre-existing humanitarian crisis. Since then, there has been massive internal and external displacement and thousands of civilian deaths. Sexual violence is increasing, children are out of school (and being recruited by both militaries), and there are both health and hunger crises. One in two people are now dependent upon aid for survival. Those who have not left the country suffer in fear and live with power outages and an acute lack of safety, water and food.

More than 20 million people in Sudan are facing acute food insecurity. It is expected that  24.8 million people in the country, approximately half the population, will need humanitarian assistance in 2024. Of those, 26% are women and 48% are children.

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy has a Global Recovery Fund that provides donors an efficient, flexible solution to support recovery efforts for people affected by disasters and crises like the one in Sudan.
