Over the past few years, natural disasters have become a large part of our lives, and we have seen that they can hit anyone anytime. We are grateful to have an incredible community that has responded each time disaster strikes. Today, we come to our community to initiate action and support for the communities devastated by the recent wildfires in Maui, Hawaii. The abundant support from the Hawaii Community Foundation towards TPF's Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund has left us profoundly grateful. The expanding support from our community during our moments of vulnerability fills us with gratitude, motivating us to reciprocate this aid when they face their own challenges.
The wildfires started on August 8th, 2023, and the impact on the communities in Maui has been devastating. In only one week, nearly 1,000 buildings were lost, and 11,000 people were displaced, with at least 96 deaths and 100 missing. The environment and large pieces of Hawaii and Maui's history, traditions, and people have suffered immensely. It is during times like these that our unity and compassion shine brightest. We believe in the power of collective efforts to bring about positive change, and we invite you to join us in making a difference.
We are launching the TPF Maui Wildfires Relief Fund to aid those affected by the Maui wildfires. All funds will go to Maui Strong Fund at Hawaii Community Foundation to aid evolving needs, including shelter, food, financial assistance, and other services as identified by organizations doing critical work on the ground in Maui. Your support will make a significant impact on the lives of those who are struggling to rebuild.
