Help Children Affected by Hurricane Otis

by SAVE THE CHILDREN FEDERATION INC

Hurricane Otis ripped through Mexico as a Category 5 storm in October 2023, wrecking homes, hotels and businesses with 165 mph winds.

Otis was the most powerful storm to ever hit Mexico’s Pacific coast, leaving a trail of devastation estimated at billions of dollars. Acapulco was among the areas worst hit with 80% of its hotels damaged and homes destroyed.

The storm intensified more quickly than any tropical cyclone ever observed in the eastern Pacific, leaving families little time to prepare for the devastation. Families are struggling to access aid and there is a lack of clean water, food and other basic essentials in the worst impacted areas.

Save the Children is responding to the growing needs of impacted communities in Mexico. We’re working with local partners to assess the damage and provide immmediate support to children and families. We plan to reach families with cash assistance as well as distribute essential items, including food, water, mattresses and blankets. We will also establish Temporary Learning Spaces and Child-Friendly Spaces where children can play and receive psychosocial support.

Donate to our Children's Emergency Fund today to help those impacted by environmental disasters, such as Hurricane Otis. Through your generous support to our Children's Emergency Fund, we can support children and families around the world before, during and after emergencies.
