PAKISTAN FLOODING CRISIS

by SAVE THE CHILDREN FEDERATION INC

Pakistan has received unprecedented rains this monsoon season, creating a massive humanitarian crisis in multiple provinces. Overflowing rivers and flash floods have damaged or destroyed hundreds of thousands of homes, along with thousands of schools and health facilities. Thousands of communities are surrounded by contaminated water amid warmer temperatures, increasing the risk of disease.

With a third of the country estimated to be under water, people are in urgent need of food, clean drinking water and shelter.

Save the Children has been working in Pakistan since 1979 and our response team mobilized within hours to help meet the most urgent needs of children and their families. Our teams are:

• Distributing emergency pre-positioned supplies, such as clean drinking water, hygiene kits, food, tents and household items
• Providing supplies for schools – we are already operating temporary learning centers, which provide children whose schools are unusable with safe spaces to learn, play and receive psychosocial support
