Refugee Week 2024

by United Kingdom for UNHCR

Refugee Week 2024 takes place from the 17th to the 23rd of June.

It is the world’s largest arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of of refugees and displaced people across the globe.

This year, the Refugee Week theme is ‘Our Home’ and focuses on creating conversations about what ‘Our Home’ means to you. We can all do more to give refugees more hope, and more opportunities, while they’re away from their home – whoever they are, wherever they come from and whenever they are forced to flee.

Refugee Facts

• 1 in every 69 people on earth have had to flee their homes.

• By the end of 2023, there were an estimated 120 million people displaced globally by conflict, persecution and human rights violations.

• The Refugee Convention was adopted in 1951. The 1951 Refugee Convention provided the first legal definition of who a refugee is and has protected the human rights of people fleeing conflict and persecution ever since.

Your support means that we can raise more money for those in need. If you believe that every person fleeing conflict has the right to seek safety and protection, join us in celebrating Refugee Week 2024 or show your support by making a donation.

Your company could also:

• Pledge to hire refugees - Demonstrate your commitment to refugee inclusion by participating in UK for UNHCR’s newly launched Refugee Employment Project

• Use your voice for refugees - Be a catalyst for change: share inspiring stories on your social channels and inspire others to join the movement too.

• Educate your employees - Host a fun and interactive Refugee Rights workshop, hosted by our friends at Babylon Migrants Project, a youth-led community organisation.

• Engage your employees - Host a lunch and learn with one of our refugee storytellers, hear their journey and their hopes for the future.

Nobody chooses to flee their home, but we can all help refugees recover their dignity, rebuild their lives and feel safe again.

£92 could provide solar lamps for four families, helping them stay safe at night and allowing children to study and learn – while reducing UNHCR’s environmental impact.

£120 could help provide a displaced family with a lifesaving Emergency Payment to buy urgent essentials such as food and medicine,

£383 could help provide refugees with a family tent, giving them a safe place to shelter.
