GivHOPE Africa Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic - Phase III

by GivHOPE Africa

Project Details

GivHOPE Africa is entering its Phase III fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Two years ago, when Covid-19 stroke out in Cameroon in early March, the most hit cities were Yaoundé and Douala and GivHOPE Africa felt compelled to respond immediately by putting in place an emergency strategy that mattered for the vulnerable populations accounted for more than 25,000 households in 209 neighborhoods. A sensitization campaigns and food bank Caravan was launched on April 11th and toured 14 neighborhoods and Tonga, The initiative came about after consultation meetings with the traditional rulers and administrative authorities in these client communities.
GivHOPE organized several awareness campaigns on barrier measures, frequent hand wash or use of sanitizers and gave out 46 bags of rice, 15 cartons of soaps, 5 cartons of tomatoes, 8 cartons of sardines and 8 ballots of clothes for an amount of 10,000.00 US$ or 9,465.64 EURO equivalent. So far GivHOPE Africa has fed more than 17,500 household in Yaoundé neighborhoods. Phase I ended on July 14, 2021 and Phase II picked up by revamping the lost businesses of the 3,550 vulnerable populations through grants/loans without interests for income generating activities.

There are more challenges ahead as new confirmed cases of Covid-19 infected people are surfacing every day in Yaoundé, Douala and other regions of the country. GivHOPE Africa needs more resources to fulfill its commitment and efficiently fight against this pandemic, especially among the vulnerable people such as the elderly ones, nursing mothers, female youth and health soldiers that help the sick day and night and others in need. Its relief efforts need around 45,000.00 US$ or 42,595.41 EURO to complete its mandate towards its current client communities, including those at the rural areas.

This same exercise was carried out in Cote-d'Ivoire (Abidjan, Yopougon neighborhood) and today, there are an overwhelmed number of new cases in the rural areas of these countries and GivHOPE Africa goal is to attend to the vulnerable populations wherever they find themselves. The situation is dire than thought and the needs even greater because the recovered ones also need follow up.
Phase III is ongoing and covers both the poor and the vulnerable persons at 90%: 2,550 people consisted mainly of the physically challenged, female youth, the elderly and their families, have been identified both in remote and urban areas of Cameroon and Cote-d'Ivoire. They lack the basic needs, especially food, shelter, education and health.

We rely on your generosity and compassion and that of our community members to be able to continue to do this essential emergency work. We heartfelt thank those who have supported our initiative by generously giving since March 2020.
