Global Emergency Fund

by CARE Australia

Global Emergency fund supports fast acting crisis response.

Fast-breaking emergencies need fast moving rapid response to save lives. Being able to react quickly, at scale, in the first hours and days of a crisis is critical when lives hang in the balance. With an increasing number of natural disasters, global political instability, extreme weather events and public health emergencies, the need for lifesaving humanitarian aid is increasing.

CARE Australia is currently responding to emergencies all around the world. We don’t know when or where we will be needed next, but we do know that we must be ready to respond.

In 2023 CARE Australia was able to provide humanitarian response in 57 countries with over 10.6 million people reached directly with live saving support. 52.9% were women and girls.

Needs are vast and assessed to meet individual needs of people and their communities. Global Emergency funds provided 2.9 million people with food, 3.9 million people with water and sanitation, 1.2 million people with health care and 1.0 million people with cash and voucher assistance. The impact of emergency funding is far reaching and live saving. Rapid response teams funded by CARE’s Humanitarian Surge Fund provide on-site support to CARE’s country offices in the aftermath of an emergency. This enables technical expertise in water, sanitation and hygiene, logistics and communication and providing food, nutrition and health care.

In addition, as the global leader in gender responsive humanitarian work, CARE’s Rapid Gender Analyses (RGA) tool can be implemented. The RGA elevates women’s leadership and voice, tackling the barriers women face in an emergency response and the tool has been widely adopted throughout the humanitarian sector.

The Global Emergency Fund also continues to provide for communities devastated by disasters long after their plight has faded from public popularity and the media spotlight. We know that the suffering and magnitude of these disasters can sometimes take months or even years to restore and recover.

With increasing global disasters evolving around the world, often impacting those already lost vulnerable and at risk, your generous gift will help CARE Australia launch on the ground support, without delay, right when it is needed most, reacting quickly to save lives.
