Humanitarian situation and Health program in Syria

, INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF THE RED CROSS

Update July 8, 2025
The humanitarian situation in Syria remains critical, with escalating violence and instability continuing into 2025. Around 12 million Syrians remain displaced—over 7.2 million of them within the country. Camps like al-Hol and al Roj alone shelter more than 43,000 people, mostly women and children from over 80 nations.
The ICRC is prioritizing access to life-saving health care, even in the hardest-to-reach areas. In hospitals treating victims of conflict, explosive remnants of war, and sexual violence, we provide essential surgical, medical, and rehabilitation support. At al-Hol camp, services run 24/7, covering everything from obstetrics and pediatrics to mental health and dental care, in partnership with the National Society.
We also run a rehabilitation center in Aleppo and bolster facilities nationwide to assist people with disabilities and chronic conditions. Through the Health Care in Danger initiative, we work to protect medical personnel and infrastructure, ensure safe referrals, and provide transportation and financial assistance—so care reaches those who need it most.
Here are the highlights of what was achieved by the end of June 2025:

The ICRC has been supporting 41 Health facilities since January 2025, a total of 263'000 beneficiaries received services at these facilities.
4334 consultations were provided during January-March at the Al Hol Camp hospital, with the target number of 13,000 by the end of this year.
