Direct Relief Responds to Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa is expected to be the strongest storm this year, with forecasted winds up to category 5, bringing dangerous rainfall and flooding across the Caribbean. The slow-moving storm is expected to intensify further as it moves towards land.

Direct Relief has a long history of responding to major storms throughout the Caribbean — including Hurricanes Matthew, Dorian, Maria, Fiona, and Beryl — ensuring health facilities can continue operating during and after disasters.

Direct Relief’s regional team based in the Caribbean is coordinating closely with local health organizations and authorities to ensure medical aid reaches communities most affected. In the past 30 days alone, Direct Relief has delivered over $3.1 million in medical aid to the region — ensuring critical resources are already on the ground and ready for use.
