Giving Tuesday in solidarity with the Bel-Air and Noailles Artists of Haiti

, TOUSSAINT LOUVERTURE CULTURAL FOUNDATION INC

The Bel-Air neighborhood and the Village of Noailles in Haiti have been under attack by armed gangs. They have destroyed equipment and materials, burned houses, kidnapped and killed several people.

The Bel-Air artists and artisans play an important role in Haiti's culture. They work in many fields: wood, canvas paintings, sculpture, sewing, leather goods, ceramics, voodoo flags, glitter etc. They participate in major cultural events in the country, and they represent Haiti in many activities abroad. The Bel-Air neighborhood occupies a large place in Port-au-Prince’s history. It's the bearer of traditions.

The artistic village of Noailles, world renowned for its metalworks, was created in 1953 from a meeting between Dewitt Peters (creator of the Centre d’Art) with blacksmith Georges Liautaud. Noailles is considered the bastion of cut metal in the Caribbean. It houses more than 70 workshops and an art museum. In 2020, it was classified as intangible cultural heritage of the Republic of Haiti.

The Bel-Air neighborhood and the Village of Noailles are high places of Haitian art. Their disappearance would have disastrous human and economic consequences. Your donation will help them repair and rebuild. Any amount will make a difference. Thank you in advance for your solidarity and donation.
