On Sept. 8, 2023, a devastating magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit Morocco. The quake was the strongest to hit the nation’s center in more than a century, and its epicenter was not far from popular tourist and economic hub Marrakech.
More than 2,900 people were killed, 380,000 were severely affected and at least 500,000 were displaced.
