Plant Organic Fruit Trees to Empower Ugandan Families & Restore Forests

, VILLAGE VISION CARE

Rural farmers in Uganda face poverty and deforestation, relying heavily on firewood and charcoal for cooking. Village Vision Care (VVC) helps families plant organic fruit trees, including mango, avocado, guava, jackfruit, and pawpaw, alongside aromatic herbs, providing nutritious food, stable income, and restored ecosystems.

Challenge:
40% of Ugandans live below or near the poverty line
85% of rural households rely on firewood or charcoal
Limited access to fruit tree seedlings and agricultural training
Deforestation accelerates droughts, floods, and soil degradation

Our Solution:
This project empowers smallholder farmers, especially women and youth, to adopt sustainable agroforestry. VVC will:

Establish community-managed organic fruit tree nurseries in Masaka District

Provide free or affordable fruit tree saplings

Grow aromatic herbs for additional income (e.g., thyme, lemongrass, lavender)

Train farmers in organic cultivation, pruning, grafting, pest control, and marketing

Support cooperatives to process and sell fruit-based products

Long-Term Impact:

Increase income for 5,500 households annually

Improve food security and nutrition through diverse diets

Reduce deforestation and soil erosion

Empower women and youth with sustainable skills

Enhance biodiversity and ecosystem health

Donation Tiers / Impact:

$10 → Grow 20 saplings for one family

$50 → Grow 100 saplings for one family

$100 → Grow 200 saplings for two families

$500 → Grow 1,000 saplings for 10 families

$100,000 → Build a fully equipped community nursery producing 100,000 trees annually, benefiting 10,000 families
