Syria Children in Crisis

, Australian Committee For UNICEF Limited

“I love to colour,” said Soundos, age 4, standing outside her early learning centre in Syria (pictured).

The centre, supported by UNICEF and named “Dream,” offers children like Soundos a safe space to learn, play, and just be kids—something far too rare after more than 13 years of war.

As Syria enters its 14th year of conflict, children are still bearing the brunt of violence, displacement, economic collapse, and deepening poverty.

The reality for children in Syria:
- 7 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance
- 5.3 million people—including millions of children—are displaced and in urgent need
- 2.4 million children aged 5–17 are out of school
- 1 in 3 schools is no longer used for education
- Over 90% of Syrians live below the poverty line

Children have been forced to grow up too fast—dropping out of school to support their families, living in unfinished buildings, shelters, or mosques. Ongoing violence in the northwest continues to threaten their safety daily.

But there is hope.

In just the first half of 2024, UNICEF reached 4.6 million people across Syria—including 2.7 million children—with essential services like clean water, nutrition, education, healthcare, and psychosocial support.

With your help, we can keep going.

Your donation can help children like Soundos access safe learning spaces, recover from trauma, and look toward a future beyond crisis.

Please give today and help children in Syria reclaim their right to childhood.
