The first eight years of schooling in Turkiye are compulsory for children, providing their families with enhanced support for early education. However, as students enter high school, the financial burden of graduating increases while the available support systems diminish. As more colleges continue to emerge in major cities and the economy faces challenges, vocational schools and new job prospects become scarce. Consequently, even for jobs that do not inherently require a college degree, many employers now demand one, making the pursuit of higher education and the associated support systems increasingly vital.
We aim to expand the "Seattle Teyzeleri" initiative, which originated in 2017 with the support of five college students and grew to assist 18 students by 2022, thanks to a small group of Turkish residents in Seattle. By establishing "GENC" as an official campaign under TPF (Turkish Philanthropy Funds) and harnessing the network of partner NGOs, we can effectively extend our reach to numerous college students facing financial difficulties in Turkey. Our goal is to establish this campaign within TPF, providing a trusted solution for our friends in Seattle, their acquaintances, as well as the well-educated and compassionate Turkish Americans residing across different parts of the United States, who have been seeking a reliable avenue to support the education of Turkish youth.
The GENÇ Giving Circle aims to provide university scholarships for youth attending college between ages 18 to 25. Our NGO partner is Community Volunteers Foundation (Toplum Gonulluleri Vakfi/TOG).
For 2023-2024 Academic year the cost of supporting a university student is approximately $85/month and $850 for full academic year.
The exact amount will be shared in August 2023.
