Women Livelihood Support - Tailoring and Aari Embroidery skill Training for women in India
efter Women's Education and Economic Development SocietyUPDATE:
We are delighted to share the achievements of our women’s livelihood initiatives in the fiscal year 2025–26, made possible through the generous contributions of our donors. With the funds raised, Four batches of Tailoring and Aari Embroidery skill training were successfully conducted. As a result, 186 women completed the Aari Embroidery program and 188 women finished the Tailoring program.
These efforts have had a profound impact, equipping underprivileged women with employable skills that enhance their economic independence and dignity.
PROJECT NEED:
Tailoring & Aari Embroidery Skill Training Centers
At WEEDS, our mission is to empower women through skill development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood opportunities. We have already set up a well-functioning training centers in Mangadu, Padappai - Kancheepuram District & Kelamangalam - Krishnagiri District, where hundreds of women have been trained. Many of them have since started their entrepreneurial journeys, while others are gainfully employed in garment companies.
Our initiative also focuses on women from vulnerable groups—those working as domestic helpers, single mothers, or women facing domestic violence and harassment. These women often remain invisible and economically dependent. To combat discrimination and create pathways toward independence,
Through these three centers, women learn tailoring and Aari embroidery, enabling them to secure jobs in garment factories or start entrepreneurial ventures such as home-based stitching or small tailoring shops.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS:
Tailoring Training
Trainees who complete the course are directly linked with garment companies for steady work. For those who prefer entrepreneurship, access to an industrial sewing machine enables them to earn from home or set up a small business.
Aari Embroidery Training
Graduates of this program are similarly given opportunities to work through our units, while new batches are continuously trained to expand the program’s reach.
This earn-as-you-learn model ensures that women gain not only practical skills but also confidence, work experience, and immediate income opportunities.
