Protect Our Environment - Save the Soil, Plant the Trees, Bring the Rain
efter Women's Education and Economic Development SocietyCampaign Overview:
Many children and communities in suburban Chennai grow up surrounded by concrete, with little exposure to green spaces or environmental education. This project combines tree-planting initiatives with hands-on environmental awareness programs in schools and local communities, creating a culture of care for nature while improving air quality, biodiversity, and climate resilience.
Goal:
Plant 2500 native trees and engage students and community members in environmental awareness workshops by March 2026.
Objectives:
1. Environmental Education: Conduct interactive eco-workshops in 5 schools and 2 community centers to build environmental responsibility among students and parents.
2. Tree Plantation: Plant 2,500 native saplings in school campuses, community parks with 90% survival ensured through 2-year maintenance.
3. Community Engagement: Involve local residents, students, and volunteers in tree-planting drives to foster collective ownership.
4. Sustainable Impact: Train teachers and student eco-clubs to monitor tree growth – “Green Pledge”
Key Activities:
• Planting of Tree Saplings: Establish native trees in schools and community spaces with geo-tagging and two years of maintenance.
• Student Engagement: Involve students in planting drives, and train them to monitor sapling growth.
• Awareness Generation: Conduct interactive sessions in schools and communities on soil protection, tree conservation, and climate resilience.
Expected Impact:
• 2500 trees planted → Improved local air quality, carbon sequestration, and microclimate balance.
• 800+ students engaged → Increased environmental literacy among students, parents, and teachers.
• Sustainable ownership → Schools and communities maintaining saplings beyond project period.
