Since our founding in 1937, Plan International has helped ensure that children are safe, healthy, educated and empowered. Not-for-profit, independent and inclusive of all faiths and cultures, we have only one agenda: to improve the lives of children. We work in places where the violations of children’s rights are the greatest and where we can create lasting, positive change. Active in more than 80 countries, we partner with children, families, communities and governments to help all children reach their full potential.
Why does our work focus on girls? Millions of children are barred from accessing their rights, but girls are the most likely to suffer from these injustices. Investing in girls is one of the most effective ways to fight global poverty and create more resilient communities. We aim not only to improve the daily lives of girls but also to advance their position and value in society while actively working with boys and young men to champion equal rights for all.
We tackle the root causes of inequality between girls and boys. We work with local governments and partners to advocate for children and develop programs that support them in their right to get an education and be healthy and protected from violence. We develop children’s leadership skills and their ability to earn a living when they grow up. We’re also there for them when crises strike. And we stay with them to help build a healthy, safe and sustainable life. To achieve these goals, our programs focus on our five priority areas of expertise.
Education: We advance children's right to get an education.
Health: We advance children's right to lead healthy lives.
Protection from Violence: We advance children's right to live violence-free lives.
Youth Leadership & Economic Empowerment: We advance young people's right to be heard, to lead and to be independent.
Humanitarian Response & Resilience: We advance children's right to access help during crises and to live in a more climate-resilient world.
At Plan, we have the knowledge, passion, reach and proven ability to make positive change – not only on an individual basis but on a systemic level as well. There is still a lot of work to do, but we can do it with the help of supporters like you. Together, we’ll keep striving together for a just world that advances children’s rights and equality for girls until we are all equal.
