Help Southeast Asia Survive Deadly Floods & Landslides
por Australian Committee For UNICEF LimitedOn 28 November, Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka, unleashing devastating floods and deadly landslides. Entire communities have been uprooted, and children are among the most vulnerable, facing risks to their health, safety, and education as essential services collapse.
• Over 219,000 people have been affected, with nearly 44,000 displaced and 69 lives lost.
• Clean water and health facilities have been severely damaged, heightening the risk of disease.
• Schools have been destroyed, threatening children’s learning and wellbeing.
These challenges come on top of the lingering impacts of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis, leaving families with few resources to cope.
UNICEF is on the ground, responding despite access constraints:
• Delivering safe drinking water to emergency shelters.
• Providing nutrition and education supplies to authorities.
• Setting up child-friendly spaces and psychosocial support for displaced children.
But the needs are immense, and we urgently require donations to scale up life-saving assistance.
