DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal

op THE BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY

Millions across Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank and the wider region are in urgent need of food, shelter and medical care.
Over the past year, conflict in parts of the Middle East has devastated lives:

In Gaza, famine is looming, clean water is scarce and health care systems have almost collapsed. Most people have fled from their homes, but there is nowhere safe left to go.
In Lebanon, hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, and humanitarian needs are increasing at an alarming rate.
In Israel, families of those held hostage desperately await news of their loved ones and tens of thousands of people have been displaced.
In the West Bank, recent violence has displaced hundreds of families and had a devastating economic impact.
Aid alone will not solve this crisis, but it will save lives.

When there is a catastrophic emergency, as we are seeing now in parts of the Middle East, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) of 15 UK charities – including the British Red Cross – join together to raise funds for an effective, coordinated response. DEC member charities are providing life-saving support and care to people in crisis in Gaza, Lebanon and the West Bank.

We’re asking you to support our aid efforts in the region by donating to the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. Your donations will ensure that DEC charities, like the British Red Cross, are able to continue their vital work today and in the weeks and months ahead.

Please donate to the DEC appeal right now, if you can.

How you can help people in the Middle East
If you are in the UK, the best and quickest way to help people affected by the crisis is to donate to the DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal. These donations enable us to respond quickly and help wherever the need is greatest. They will support the lifesaving work of our Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement colleagues who’ve been providing aid and care to communities tirelessly over the past year.

Donate now to help people in the Middle East

What is the Red Cross and Red Crescent doing to help people in the Middle East?
Over the past year, the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has provided a lifeline:

The Palestine Red Crescent Society is providing emergency medical care across Gaza and has distributed 1.6 million emergency relief items, including food and water.
Lebanese Red Cross volunteers are supporting the injured and displaced.
In Israel, Magen David Adom (MDA) has responded to over one million emergency calls.
In the West Bank, the Palestine Red Crescent Society are providing healthcare services and distributing food parcels.
Together, we will continue to provide lifesaving aid today and an ongoing humanitarian response and recovery effort in the many years ahead.

Where will money I donate, go?
In a DEC appeal, the focus is where the humanitarian need is the greatest. The DEC Middle East Humanitarian Appeal will support people most in need and those potentially affected in the future by this crisis.

For this reason, the majority of funds from this appeal will be used to support people in Gaza and Lebanon. A number of DEC charities are ready to expand their support in Israel if needed, including the British Red Cross.

Gift Aid claimed on donations received in response to this appeal will be used to fund the whole of our work. In the event there are surplus funds raised for this appeal, these will be used for the general charitable purposes of the British Red Cross.
