A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, causing widespread devastation across the region. As of March 31, the death toll has surpassed 1,700, with thousands more injured and many still missing. The situation is dire in one of Asia’s most vulnerable countries that’s already grappling with a humanitarian crisis.
As the scale of this tragedy continues to unfold, Americares is preparing to respond with lifesaving medical aid and relief supplies.
Americares has deployed a four-person emergency response team to Bangkok to coordinate with the international humanitarian community. Our team is assessing the most urgent health needs, supporting frontline health workers, and helping ensure survivors have access to critical medicines and care.
At the same time, we are preparing to send shipments of essential medical supplies—such as IV fluids, hygiene kits, wound care items, and chronic disease medications—to support the health system's immediate response. We are also exploring ways to provide emergency funding to trusted local partners delivering care on the ground.
