Water First is dedicated to resolving water challenges faced by Canada’s First Nations. By means of education, training, and meaningful collaboration, their focus on community development has helped create sustainable solutions to address water sanitation in more than 50 Indigenous communities.

The Problem
Many First Nations communities in Canada are facing a water crisis, where water is difficult to access or contaminated by pollutants and faulty treatment systems. Approximately 20% of Indigenous communities in Canada live under a boil-water advisory, meaning their tap water is not safe to drink. Despite this reality, these communities are often neglected. Without education or employment support in the areas of water science and management, these water issues cannot be properly resolved.

The Solution
Water First provides paid internship programs for youth and young adults to train in water treatment and environmental water monitoring. By supporting this program, you are ensuring First Nations communities can equip themselves with the necessary skills to address the water crisis. In addition to the internship program, Water First also channels funds into environmental restoration projects. Your donations will help empower Indigenous communities with the skills to fix Canada’s water systems.
