The Charity's slogan/tagline is “Be Kind to Your Mind”. We are all about helping people make connections with people who can help them with their mental health. We also encourage people to be pro-active instead of reactive when it comes to mental health.
The Charity’s name Speaking Through C.R.A.I.G. – Solutions Inc. stands for Speaking Through Creating Resilience and Awareness Inspired through Guidance – Solutions are Incorporated in each M.E. Day and through each Project. The Charity was named in honour of, Craig Hartl, who took his life because of anxiety, depression, and being a victim of a romance scam.
M.E. Day is the event that the Charity hosts once a year at different locations. M.E. Day stand for (Mental Health Edification Day). Each year any community can apply for a M.E. Day event through our website www.meday.ca The event is a free event for everyone, but you will have to download a ticket from our www.meday.ca website or go to the local public library to get one printed out to attend (this is because there is a limited number of seats allowed in the venues for fire and safety regulations). We do not want to turn anyone away from the event. At the M.E. Day event, there is a guest speaker, and booths of a variety of different help that are available for mental health that can be found in and around each location where the M.E. Day event is held. M.E. Day is all about making connections and creating your own mental health team. We (the Charity board members/and volunteers) do all the “leg work”. We do fund raising (one of the year-round, on-going fundraisers is selling M.E. Day clothing through the link on our website www.meday.ca). We also find sponsors, book and pay for the guest speaker, find the event center and pay for it, find the help for mental health that can be found in and around the community and invite them to set-up a booth at the M.E. Day event, and everything else that it takes to put on this event so it can be a free learning evening for everyone. Our hashtag is #Hartlinspired.
The Charity has three projects:
Project HELP – is in memory of Craig (my son). The project provides scholarships for nurses, doctors, continuing care aids who work in hospitals and long-term care homes, and for people who work at homeless shelters who would like to learn more about therapies and modalities that can help in the area of mental health.
Sierra’s Gift – is in memory of my little niece who died at three months old from a heart defect. This project will also provide scholarships for nurses and doctors who work in the children’s hospitals, and for people who work in homes like the Ronald McDonald home who would like to learn more about therapies and modalities that can help in the area of mental health.
Project Ivan – is in memory of my dad. He loved all animals, but especially puppies. We are working with St. John Ambulance to bring pet therapy to schools, hospitals, long-term care homes, and homeless shelters. It was set-up in honour of his request before he passed.
