Summary
Village Vision Care (VVC), in partnership with local health and education stakeholders, seeks support for a one-year project to provide comprehensive care for 100 young pregnant teenagers and their babies in Uganda. The project combines medical services, counselling, nutritional support, and community prevention activities to break the cycle of poverty, early childbearing, and risky behaviours. By addressing both health and social needs, the project ensures that young mothers have a safe pregnancy, empowered parenting skills, and opportunities for continued education and economic participation.
The Challenge
Uganda faces one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Sub-Saharan Africa. Around 25% of girls aged 15–19 are either mothers or pregnant (UBOS, UNICEF). In 2020 alone, over 354,000 teenage pregnancies were recorded, averaging more than 32,000 per month (UNFPA). Teenage pregnancy contributes to:
22% of school dropouts among girls aged 14–18.
20% of infant deaths and 28% of maternal deaths each year.
Significant economic burden on households and government, exceeding UGX 1.5 trillion annually.
Most affected girls live in poor, rural communities with limited access to reproductive health care, education, and social support. Stigma, health risks, and economic vulnerability prevent these girls from realizing their potential. Without intervention, many teenage mothers remain trapped in a cycle of poverty, poor health, and social exclusion.
Our Solution (One-Year Plan)
VVC’s project offers holistic support to both pregnant teens and their communities, combining immediate care with long-term education and awareness:
Health & Counselling Support
Obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, and nutrition consultations.
Laboratory tests, ultrasound, and cytology for early detection of complications.
Psychological and social counselling to support mental health and confidence.
Nutritional support for mothers and their newborns to reduce malnutrition risks.
Community Prevention & Awareness
Life skills and reproductive health sessions for 240 students, 100 parents, and 80 teachers.
Community dialogues to reduce stigma, challenge harmful norms, and address gender-based violence.
Advocacy for safe pregnancies, school continuation, and inclusive support networks.
Monitoring & Support
Track health outcomes, safe deliveries, school re-entry, and counselling progress.
Partner with local health centres and schools to ensure continuity of care beyond the project year.
Budget / Support Breakdown
Medical consultations (obstetrics/gynaecology/pediatrics/nutrition) – $15 x 100 mothers = $1,500
Parental laboratory tests – $25 x 100 = $2,500
Medical consultation with ultrasound – $32.5 x 100 = $3,250
Medical consultation with cytology + ultrasound – $42.5 x 100 = $4,250
Psychological & social counselling packages – $100 x 100 = $10,000
Awareness sessions (students, parents, teachers) = $5,000
Administration, coordination & transport (15%) = $3,900
Refreshments for participants = $900
Miscellaneous (3–5% for unexpected costs) = $1,000
Total One-Year Budget: $32,050
Donation Impact Examples:
$50 USD supports a full medical consultation and counselling session for one young mother.
$100 USD provides an ultrasound, nutritional supplements, or health kit for one mother and baby.
$200 USD covers a small group awareness session in the community for parents, teachers, and peers.
$500 USD ensures one teenage mother receives full medical, counselling, and nutritional support for safe delivery.
Expected Outcomes (12–24 months)
100 teenage mothers receive medical, nutritional, and psychosocial support.
Safe deliveries and improved maternal-infant health outcomes.
Reduction in teenage pregnancy rates in target communities through education and prevention sessions.

Builds safer, more supportive communities for girls at risk.
Call to Action
Your support ensures that young mothers have the care, knowledge, and confidence to thrive. Every donation helps prevent school dropout, supports safe pregnancies, and empowers girls to break the cycle of poverty. Together, we can give young mothers and their babies a future full of hope and opportunity.
Monitoring & Accountability
VVC will track health outcomes, deliveries, school enrollment, and counselling progress. Monthly reports, photos (with consent), and beneficiary updates will ensure donors see the real impact of their contributions.
Sustainability Plan
Health, counselling, and skills-building initiatives are designed for long-term impact. Participating girls and their families are equipped with knowledge and access to local support networks, ensuring care continues beyond the one-year project. The project establishes community structures for ongoing awareness, support, and prevention.
Risk Management
Potential challenges such as missed clinic visits or school interruptions will be mitigated through follow-up, peer support groups, community engagement, and coordination with local health and education authorities.
