World Humanitarian Day: Stand in Solidarity with MSF Humanitarian Workers
di Doctors Without Borders Canada / Médecins Sans Frontières CanadaAugust 19 is World Humanitarian Day. On this day, we invite you to stand in solidarity with humanitarians working around the world by making a donation to Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).
When you donate, you can recognize someone – a family member, friend or colleague – who makes an impact in the lives of people around them.
Right now, there are more than 69,000 MSF staff working in more than 70 countries around the world. MSF Canada, for example, sends over 250 International Mobile Staff (IMS) each year to work overseas in MSF's projects.
The work we do includes providing emergency medical assistance in Sudan, which is witnessing a catastrophic crisis since the beginning of war in April 2023.
El Geneina Teaching hospital in West Darfur recorded a staggering 23,000 outpatient consultations from January to May 2024 alone. “One of the things that has struck me the most,” says Cynthia Matildes, MSF psychologist, “is to see how the medical and non-medical staff at El-Geneina hospital kept working even during active conflict, doing it purely to help others, even risking their own lives. This to me truly speaks of what it is to be a humanitarian worker, and it is something I admire greatly.”
This World Humanitarian Day, will you consider supporting MSF and help our teams go wherever needs are greatest? Donors like you help MSF’s staff provide emergency assistance to people who need it most.
As a medical humanitarian organization, we know minutes matter when providing care to people affected by emergencies, including crises which are in the spotlight and those that remain underreported such as in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti and Sudan. So, make this minute matter. Donate now.
We thank you for the vital role you play in making our work possible.
