Build a Boma - project lions and cattle
Through the Communal Herding Program, we combine traditional herding practices and local capacity to realise economic safety and healthy ecosystems involving livestock (Goats, Cattle and Sheep) by building Bomas which protects the domestic animals from lions, hyena etc.
Cattle are wealth in Africa and by using technology and tradition it reduces conflict and promotes human-lion coexistence.
By protecting the traditional livestock it creates stability and support for the local communities. It also highly reduces the threat to wildlife in the regions and we find this project being key in the Okavango region.
Bomas can be straightforward but it takes a lot of design, materials and man hours to ensure the cattle kept safe overnight.
