Operation Her Home/Tacoma Women Veterans Transitional Duplex
par Wings of Hope Veteran Housing FoundationProject Description
Operation Her Home is a flagship initiative of Wings of Hope Veteran Housing Foundation dedicated to ending homelessness among women veterans by acquiring, rehabilitating, and operating safe, stable, and supportive housing designed specifically for those who have served our nation.
Women veterans are one of the fastest-growing populations experiencing housing instability in the United States. Many have survived military trauma, domestic violence, financial hardship, disabilities, or other life-altering circumstances that make securing permanent housing extraordinarily difficult. Despite their service and sacrifice, too many women veterans face homelessness with limited access to housing designed specifically to meet their unique needs.
Operation Her Home was created to change that reality.
Our immediate goal is to raise $125,000 to secure the down payment needed to acquire a veteran-only housing property located at 709 South M Street in Tacoma, Washington. Once acquired, the property will be renovated and transformed into a safe, supportive residential environment exclusively serving homeless women veterans as they transition toward permanent stability and independence.
This project represents much more than purchasing a building. It represents the creation of a pathway from homelessness to hope.
Residents will be referred through established community partners serving veterans, including organizations that specialize in homeless outreach, veteran case management, behavioral health, and housing navigation. Every resident will be carefully screened to ensure the program remains focused on serving women veterans experiencing homelessness or those at imminent risk of homelessness.
Operation Her Home is built upon the belief that housing is the foundation from which every other aspect of recovery and personal success becomes possible. Stable housing allows veterans to address healthcare needs, pursue employment, reconnect with family, access counseling services, participate in educational opportunities, and rebuild their lives with dignity.
The property will provide secure, clean, and professionally managed housing in an environment where women veterans can heal alongside others who understand military service and its unique challenges.
Beyond housing, residents will receive coordinated access to community resources that may include:
• Case management
• Employment assistance
• Workforce development
• Financial literacy education
• Budget coaching
• Benefits navigation
• VA healthcare enrollment
• Mental health referrals
• Substance recovery resources
• Life skills coaching
• Transportation assistance
• Community engagement opportunities
• Permanent housing placement assistance
Rather than attempting to duplicate services already available in the community, Wings of Hope Veteran Housing Foundation intends to collaborate with existing veteran-serving organizations, healthcare providers, workforce agencies, and community nonprofits to ensure residents receive comprehensive support while maximizing available public and private resources.
Our organization believes collaboration creates stronger outcomes than working in isolation.
The project is also designed to serve as a demonstration model for future veteran housing developments throughout Pierce County and eventually across Washington State.
Our long-term vision includes acquiring additional duplexes, apartment buildings, and multifamily properties that can provide both transitional and permanent housing opportunities for veterans experiencing homelessness.
Operation Her Home serves as the first major step toward that larger vision.
Funds raised through this campaign will be used for activities directly related to acquiring and preparing the property, including the down payment, due diligence expenses, inspections, professional services, closing costs, initial rehabilitation planning, safety improvements, accessibility enhancements where appropriate, and other acquisition-related costs necessary to prepare the property for occupancy.
Following acquisition, additional funding will be pursued through grants, philanthropic partnerships, corporate sponsorships, community donations, and public funding opportunities to support rehabilitation, furnishings, resident services, and ongoing operations.
The project emphasizes long-term sustainability.
Rental income, including veteran housing assistance programs and other eligible housing resources where appropriate, will contribute toward maintaining the property while philanthropic support will continue expanding resident services and future housing opportunities.
Every contribution made toward Operation Her Home creates lasting community impact.
Donors are not simply funding a building—they are helping create homes where women veterans can regain independence, restore confidence, improve their health, reconnect with family members, and build brighter futures.
The impact extends well beyond the individual resident.
Communities benefit through reduced homelessness, decreased emergency service utilization, stronger neighborhood stability, improved public health outcomes, and increased opportunities for veterans to become productive, engaged members of society.
Operation Her Home reflects the core mission of Wings of Hope Veteran Housing Foundation:
To create safe, affordable, and supportive housing solutions that empower homeless veterans to achieve lasting stability, independence, and hope.
As a veteran-led organization, we understand both the pride associated with military service and the challenges many veterans face after leaving active duty.
Our leadership is committed to ensuring that no veteran is forgotten simply because housing became unattainable.
This initiative also provides an opportunity for businesses, foundations, civic organizations, faith communities, and individual donors to become active partners in transforming veterans' lives.
Corporate sponsors may engage through financial contributions, employee giving campaigns, volunteer opportunities, in-kind donations, furnishing apartments, professional services, or long-term strategic partnerships.
Community members can participate through donations, fundraising campaigns, awareness initiatives, volunteer activities, and advocacy for veteran housing solutions.
Transparency and accountability remain central to the project's success.
Wings of Hope Veteran Housing Foundation is committed to responsible financial stewardship, measurable outcomes, regular reporting to funding partners, and maintaining the highest standards of nonprofit governance.
Performance indicators will include property acquisition milestones, housing occupancy rates, resident retention, successful transitions into permanent housing, employment outcomes, income growth, connections to healthcare, and overall improvements in housing stability and quality of life.
Operation Her Home is more than a fundraising campaign.
It is a promise to the women who wore our nation's uniform that their service will never be forgotten and that their community stands ready to help them rebuild their futures.
Together, we can transform one property into a place of healing, one resident into a success story, and one investment into a lasting legacy of service for those who once served us.
By supporting Operation Her Home, donors become partners in restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and ensuring that women veterans have a safe place to call home.
Because every veteran deserves more than gratitude.
Every veteran deserves a home.
