Overview of program
The agricultural sector is facing significant challenges due to the increased use of harmful chemicals, which pose serious health risks to humans, plants, and soil. Hariraj Charitable Trust has been committed to the betterment of farmers for over 30 years. Our program's aim to promote sustainable farming practices among 1650 farmers in the Vadodara and Narmada district, focusing on reducing chemical usage and increasing awareness of biofertilizers and organic alternatives.
Problem Statement
Modern agricultural practices have led to a heavy reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, such as malathion and scyphate, resulting in hazardous health effects including:
- Increased cancer risk
- Damage to the nervous system
- Respiratory issues
- Soil degradation
Farmers often lack the knowledge and resources to transition to safer and more sustainable farming methods. Our Environment-Friendly Farming program addresses these challenges by providing training and support for the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
Objectives
Raise Awareness: Educate farmers about the dangers of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
Promote Sustainable Practices: Encourage the adoption of biofertilizers and organic farming techniques.
Enhance Crop Quality and Yield: Help farmers achieve better production quality with reduced chemical inputs.
Provide Ongoing Support: Establish a network of resources and training for sustainable farming.
Target Group: We are working with 1650 farmers from 26 villages of Tilakawada, Dabhoi, Karajan and Sinor blocks of Narmada and Vadodara districts.
Key Activities:
- Awareness Campaigns: Conduct workshops and seminars to educate farmers about the risks associated with chemical use. Distribute informational materials on sustainable farming practices and the benefits of biofertilizers.
- Training Programs: Organize hands-on training sessions on organic farming techniques, pest management, and soil health. Provide guidance on the selection and application of biofertilizers.
- Demonstration Farms: Establish demonstration plots showcasing successful sustainable farming practices.Allow farmers to observe and learn from practical examples.
- Ongoing Support and Resources: Create a support network for farmers to share experiences and solutions. Offer technical assistance and access to resources for implementing sustainable practices.
- Animal welfare: We provide support of cattle feed/vaccination support/animal health camp for extra income generation and production of biofertilizer.
Currently, we are focusing on all the problems that farmers are facing at the ground level, helping them with different activities, and providing them with training on various aspects.
By promoting sustainable farming practices, Hariraj Charitable Trust aims to improve the health and well-being of farmers and their communities while contributing to a more sustainable agricultural sector. Our program represents a significant opportunity to empower farmers with the knowledge and resources they need to transition away from harmful chemicals.
