CALGARY FOOD BANK

The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis. Once the food emergency is addressed, we refer food bank clients to our proven partner agencies and programs. Our deep collaboration and food support to hundreds of other charitable organizations that address the root causes of food insecurity aligns with our mission to work with our community to fight hunger.

We are the most accessible food bank in Calgary serving families, individuals and organizations. We are not a government or United Way agency. We rely solely on the generous support of the community.

The Calgary Food Bank addresses hunger in the community though these programs:

EMERGENCY FOOD HAMPERS
The Emergency Food Hamper program is at the core of our mission and what we do every day. The program is available to families and individuals who are experiencing food insecurity due to emergency situations. The food hampers contain seven to 10 days worth of nutritious food for each person.

FOOD LINK
Food Link provides quality food and supplies to charitable organizations so that they can focus their resources on program delivery rather than sourcing food.

WEEKENDS AND MORE
When hundreds of students in Calgary were identified as chronically hungry, the Calgary Board of Education school-based partnership, Weekends and More, was created. Since 2014, students have received nutritious food hampers containing two to three days’ worth of kid-friendly food that discreetly fits into a backpack.

HAMPERS FOR THE HOMELESS
The Hampers for the Homeless program provides food to agencies that work with the homeless population in Calgary. Hampers provide short-term relief of hunger with easy to open, ready to eat, shelf stable food for one to two days.

WELCOME HOME PROGRAM
The Welcome Home Program provides hampers containing pantry staples, cleaning supplies, and hygiene items to individuals and families transitioning into housing after experiencing homelessness. Working in collaboration with the Community Kitchen Program of Calgary, hampers are distributed with essential items to establish a new household.

FOOD MOVEMENT
Food rescue is the process of gleaning viable food so that it is not going to waste. Instead we redirect to support communities locally, provincially and even nationally. We are considered a critical food distribution hub and closely work with food industry to ensure food is delivered where it is needed most.
