Through our work as client-focused, public interest attorneys, Crag engages with and benefits a wide range of communities across the Pacific Northwest. By focusing on serving our clients as opposed to pursuing our own policy agenda, we empower organizations to accomplish their missions. We are guided by our core values of equity, mentorship, access, justice, and collaboration to elevate the voices of historically excluded communities and support communities most impacted by environmental injustice.
Since our founding, we have represented over 200 different conservation organizations, community groups and Tribes across the Pacific Northwest and primarily in Oregon, where we are based.
Most communities don’t have the powers or resources that the fossil fuel industry does, and not all people have equal voice in the decisions that affect us. But, when people have the power of a lawyer standing beside them, we can balance the scales of justice.
Over the past year, Crag provided over 11,000 hours of free and low-cost legal services (a $4.1 million value) to over 60 conservation groups, communities, and Tribes. As community-based lawyers, we are taking on corporations who value profits over people, protecting old-growth forests and watersheds, helping local residents stand up for their communities, and stopping fossil fuel projects along the Columbia River and Oregon Coast.
As community-based lawyers, we help our clients and partners understand the complex legal landscape and identify a set of tools to help them achieve their goals for a healthy environment and a sustainable future. Many of these groups face challenges against well-funded corporations that can afford to hire teams of attorneys. Crag advocates for those who might not otherwise have a voice in decisions that directly affect their communities. We take on the cases that others often overlook, including cases with no possibility of recovering attorneys’ fees. We work for our clients to balance the scales of justice, ensure the integrity of our government processes, and help our clients achieve their own missions.
Every dollar you donate helps us provide over $4 million of legal aid a year to conservation groups, communities, and Tribes. As community-based lawyers, we are protecting old-growth forests and watersheds, helping local residents stand up for their communities against corporate bullies, and stopping fossil fuel projects around Portland and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
