Support Clean Energy, Vocational Skills, and Climate Action for Vulnerable Communities
de VILLAGE VISION CARESummary
Village Vision Care (VVC), led by Founder and Volunteer CEO Ronnie Remmy Mukwaya, seeks to empower vulnerable communities in Masaka District, Uganda, through clean energy, vocational skills, financial inclusion, and climate-smart solutions. Inspired by the late Glenn Flaten, a Rotarian from Ottawa, Canada, VVC continues his legacy by creating sustainable opportunities for youth, women, single mothers, persons with disabilities, and households affected by HIV/AIDS.
This project will establish six decentralized community hubs across Buwuunga, Bukakata, Kyesiiga, Kyanamukaaka sub-counties, and urban divisions of Nyendo-Mukungwe and Kimaanya-Kabonera. The hubs will serve as training centers, business incubation spaces, and innovation hubs for green manufacturing, vocational training, bakery, catering, and climate-resilient livelihoods.
Through this initiative, VVC will improve access to clean water, expand income-generating skills, and implement climate-smart practices, directly impacting thousands of households and creating sustainable, long-term community transformation.
The Challenge
Communities in Masaka face multiple barriers:
High youth unemployment and school dropout rates.
Early pregnancies among young girls, limiting future opportunities.
Heavy reliance on firewood and charcoal, causing deforestation and health hazards.
Limited access to clean water, requiring women and children to walk long distances.
Poor waste management, increasing pollution and health risks such as malaria.
Limited access to practical skills, vocational training, and micro-enterprise opportunities.
Without intervention, these challenges perpetuate poverty, environmental degradation, and exclusion from economic opportunities.
Our Solution
VVC’s hubs will directly address these challenges through integrated programs:
Vocational Training: Tailoring, hairdressing, knitting & embroidery, welding, motorcycle repair, crafts, bakery & catering, ICT, and music/piano, certified by Uganda’s Directorate of Industrial Training.
Green Manufacturing Enterprises: Eco-friendly briquettes, animal-feed pellets, and interlocking bricks produced locally to reduce pollution and generate income.
Bakery and Catering Enterprises: Run by struggling single and young mothers, creating sustainable livelihoods.
Poultry Farming: 500 layer chicks per hub to generate income and provide protein for families.
Clean Water Access: Solar-powered boreholes providing safe water to 500+ households per hub.
Financial Inclusion: Expand Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) via digital platforms for entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
Climate Resilience & Environmental Stewardship: Tree planting, backyard gardening, waste-to-resource projects, and climate-smart farming practices.
Full-Day Skills Development: Free training sessions (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) including nutritious meals to ensure participation by marginalized youth, women, and caregivers.
