Support Urgent Disaster Relief Efforts in india during emergency - Climate change mitigation
de Women's Education and Economic Development SocietyProject Description:
WEEDS operates in four suburban districts of Tamil Nadu—Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpet—where climate change has intensified challenges over the years due to La-Nina effect, especially during the monsoon season from mid-October to December, when heavy rainfall and flooding are frequent. These natural disasters have had the most severe impact on the communities we serve, including informal workers, low-income families, single women, migrants, and marginalized groups.
In recent years, Chennai has faced severe floods, and WEEDS NGO has played a crucial role in providing timely relief — including food provisions, hygiene kits, and renovation support for the homes of severely affected low-income families living in flood-prone areas. These communities, already vulnerable due to their socio-economic conditions, remain at heightened risk from the increasing impacts of climate-related disasters.
To better support them, WEEDS NGO is committed to proactive disaster preparedness. By raising funds in advance, we can respond swiftly to future floods, cyclones, and other climate challenges, ensuring essential supplies and services reach those in need.
Our focus remains on helping these communities overcome immediate crises and recover effectively.
Objective:
- The primary objective of the "Disaster Emergency Relief" program is to offer immediate assistance to most affected below-poverty-level families, single women, destitute individuals, daily wage workers, and informal workers residing in the low-lying areas of Chennai, particularly in the suburbs districts.
